Do You Love Math? We Do!

Students choose to stay after school to do an optional math test?  Yes!

Middle and high school students at LuHi can participate in a series of math contests throughout the year.  These contests take place after school, and are made up of very challenging questions.

Mr. Klemp works with eager middle school students one to two times per month with the goal of learning strategies that can be used to solve such problems.  His middle school Math Olympiad club finishes the year with participation in a travel competition.

Mrs. O’Brien works with the high school mathletes. There are two mathlete levels for high school students - an on-campus option, and a travel team. The on-campus mathletes participate in the New York State Math League (NYSML) and the American Mathematics Competition (AMC). The AMC is the qualifying exam for the US Math Olympics. Our travel team participates in the NCIML, and travels to Jericho HS to compete. They compete with all schools in Nassau County. This year’s contests have been very challenging, and currently LuHi is listed as one of the top schools in Nassau County.  Last year, Karen Li ‘19 was declared an All Star of Nassau County and she went on to compete in other contests on the Nassau County All Star team. We can't wait to see which LuHi students emerge this year as our mathlete all-stars - stay tuned!
