Long Island Lutheran hosted its first annual Meal Packing Event in 2011. Every year, over the course of three days, students, faculty and staff, along with the help of local schools, community groups and our association congregations pack about 300,000 meals for Long Island Food Pantries, the Andrew Grene School in Haiti and other countries with food insecurity.
Students receive much more than they give by participating in projects such as these, and at LuHi we aim to offer students not only excellent academic and social experiences but also with service learning experiences that will shape them into responsible global citizens.
The 2019 Meal Packing Event took place on Sunday, April 7 - Tuesday, April 9. Over 1,100 volunteers
, including our entire student body, faculty, and staff, packed 273,474 meals
to be delivered to Island Harvest and local pantries. These meals will help our neighbors on Long Island struggling with food insecurity.
As the 9th year of this important LuHi community service event, we are happy to say that we have packed 2,781,986 meals since 2011. We look forward to our 10th Anniversary event in 2020 and hope you will all consider how you can be involved.
