Fall Sports Preview

With the cooler temperatures of the last few days, it is really starting to feel less like summer and more like autumn. The change of season ushers in many exciting things, including a new athletics season! Read on for some highlights of each of our fall interscholastic sports teams, as shared by LuHi’s Athletic Director Mr. Todd Huebner, including key games, matches, and meets where you can come cheer on your LuHi Crusaders!

Football - The LuHi Football team is gearing up for their first season in the Metropolitan Independent Football League. Coach Reno’s squad includes a group of promising athletes that have a combination of both strength and speed. They open the season on Friday, September 6th at 7 PM under the lights at Cantiague Park, and the Homecoming game is Saturday, October 12th at 2 PM vs Montclair Kimberley Academy. Boys Soccer - The Boys Varsity Soccer team kicks off its season on Friday, September 6th at Columbia Prep. Led by new head coach Artur Piperkov, the team is on a mission to avenge their loss in last year’s PSAA finals and take home the league crown. A highlight of the season will be their Homecoming game on October 11th vs Portledge under the lights at LuHi, starting at 6:30 PM.
Girls Soccer - Coach Longo returns for his 5th season as head coach as the Girls Varsity Soccer team begins their season on Friday, September 6th at home vs Mary Louis Academy (4:30 PM). The team looks to finish at the top of the PSAA standings this year. As with our other sports teams, they eagerly anticipate their Homecoming matchup against Portledge, which takes place on Friday, October 11th at 4:30 PM.
Girls Volleyball - The Varsity Volleyball team is coming off an exciting 2018 season where they won the PSAA championship match right here in LuHi’s Visscher Gym. While many of their team leaders graduated, they look to rebuild and compete for the league title once again. With several tournaments on the calendar (including September 14th at The Masters School, and September 21st at Martin Luther), they also look forward to their Homecoming match vs The Masters School on Friday, October 11th at 4:30.
Girls Tennis - Led by longtime coach Carl Barnett, the Girls Varsity Tennis will once again compete in the PSAA league. They have several home matches on the calendar, and hope that the LuHi community will come support them. One date to mark on your calendar is their Homecoming Match against The Masters School on Friday, October 11th at 4:30 PM.
Cross Country - LuHi’s Cross Country team is preparing for a packed schedule of both league and non-league meets this fall. Led by Coach Ken Coleman, the team hopes to have solid results in their league meets to qualify for the PSAA championships at the end of October. A highlight of their season is their home meet at LuHi, which will take place on Tuesday, October 15th at 4:15 PM.
