Meet Ms. Palmer!

We are excited to introduce our new LuHi Faculty and Staff members for the 2021-22 school year! This week, we introduce Middle School World Language teacher, Ms. Vanessa Palmer. Read on to learn more about her!

Where did you attend college, and what did you study there?I attended Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania and received a degree in French Language and Literature. I also hold a masters degree in Education from Columbia International University


What do you love about teaching world languages?
I love teaching world languages because it It opens up many different worlds.


What are you most looking forward to as you step into the role of teacher here at LuHi?I am looking forward to getting to know the students and colleagues, and being in a Christian environment.

What are your other interests outside of teaching?My other interests include volunteer work with my church, hiking, swimming, and travel.


What is your favorite holiday and why?
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because of the family get-togethers, and the holiday is not commercialized as much as Christmas. 


What other teaching experience do you have? What was that experience like?
I have taught in public school in England, and private schools on Hilton Head Island, San Francisco and Syosset. All the experiences were very different!


What is your favorite book and/or movie, and why?
Too many to mention! I love the Scarlet Pimpernel which was a book and two movies, and is about the French Revolution. Not for the faint of heart! Chariots of Fire is an all-time favorite movie from the 80s. I’m definitely a big fan of The Chosen. As far as books go: all of Jane Austen, CS Lewis, and of course my favorite book of all, the Bible.

What is a fun/little known fact about you? I grew up in Turkey, Hawaii and the Philippines. My family are world travelers. Once when I was in college we were all 5 in different countries!
