Long Island Lutheran Middle & High School: A private Christian school serving grades 6-12
LuHi Installs New Head of School
Long Island Lutheran Middle & High School (LuHi) is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. John Buck as Head of School.
The decision by the Board of Directors was based on the enthusiastic endorsement of the school’s Search Committee, representing teachers, donors, alumni, parents, and administrators. The Board of Directors believes Mr. Buck demonstrated his strong ability to deal with the many facets of Christian private school education after serving as Interim Head of School in 2017-18. Additionally, Mr. Buck’s passion for LuHi and its mission to create educated, compassionate leaders directly flows from his history with the school, starting with his time as a LuHi student.
Mr. Buck is a product of Lutheran education, having graduated from both Trinity Hicksville and LuHi, Class of 2002. He received his BA in Economics from Wake Forest University and his MS from Ohio University. He has served LuHi as a teacher, Dean of Students and basketball coach. He and his wife Kasey are the proud parents of Miles and Levi and worship at Shelter Rock Church in Syosset.
On September 13 LuHi celebrated the installation of Mr. Buck as Long Island Lutheran's New Head of School. Officiated by Pastor Justin Vetrano, the entire student body, Lutheran pastors, administrators and educators, faculty and staff witnessed as Mr. Buck confirmed his call as Head of School. The gathered group pledged their support of his leadership and celebrated with a thunderous round of applause and standing ovation.
In accepting the position, Mr. Buck thanked everyone saying, “I am so fortunate to be able to serve LuHi in this role. I feel a tremendous sense of purpose in my work and I know that is something for which to be truly grateful. The future is incredibly bright here at LuHi. We have amazing people that attend our school, work at our school, and support our school. Our focus is to love and care for our students so that they can become all that God wants them to be.”
