The New York City Department of Parks & Recreation's Reforestation Project aims to clean up parks in Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island.
On Saturday, October 19, a group of LuHi students from the Long Island Boarding program visited Idlewild Park in Queens. Stewardship volunteers came together to clean up and bring the park back to life by planting new trees and shrubs that will help the environment thrive. Students spent the day picking up trash and removing invasive building materials that have been decaying in the park's natural areas for years. Together, volunteers removed about 500 pounds of leftover invasive materials.
