2018 - 2019
The 2018 Long Island Lutheran Varsity baseball program looks to build off of their successful campaign the past two season. In 2016 Long Island Lutheran was crowed champions of their division knocking off six time defending champion Berkeley Carrol and in 2017 Long Island Lutheran were runners up losing in the final to Packer.
The 2018 team will be led by their seniors and three year letter winners Chase Alexander and Thomas Piccolo. Both of these players played important roles the last two seasons and will be asked to carry the load. Thomas Piccolo was named junior of the year and was one of the best catchers in the league and is a favorite for league MVP. Thomas is a quiet leader and is someone that coach Tinney & coach Lynch count on greatly. Thomas will look to build off last season and take another step forward.
The pitching staff will be led by senior Chase Alexander. Chase won both playoff games for Long Island Lutheran in the 2016 championship season. Chase is a bull-dog on the mound and wants the ball and wants to be the best. Chase has a chance to be a top 3 pitcher in the division.
The roster for the 2018 season is a small but talented one and all the players will have a fantastic opportunity for playing time. Jake Ebrahami is slated to bat in the middle of the order and came to try-outs in fantastic shape. It would be no surprise if Jake hits over .400 with power.
Matthew Anez is a three year letter winner and will be a starting middle infielder and valuable asset on the mound. Matthew is an excellent athletes having played soccer this Fall. Matthew brings speed and smarts and will be leaned upon heavily.
Justin Stewart returns after improving dramatically over the course of 2017. Justin also came in to this season in fantastic shape and is now slotted to start in the OF.
Our junior class will be led by three prime time players. Andrew Poretzky is one of the hardest workers on the team and is slotted to play middle infield and also contribute on the mound. The coaching staff is looking for him to take another step in his game and be a top of the order hitter.
Jake Vota is a big strong player that can play all over the field. As a junior last season Jake hit over .300 while playing 1B/OF and pitching. Jake has a chance to be our clean-up hitter.
Our game two starter is set to be junior Vincent Macaluso. Vincent shows a poise on the mound that will serve him well in tight games. His off-season program has paid dividends and Vincent has the potential to a top pitcher.
Two newcomers round out the roster 2021 graduates Salvatore Trizzino is Van Weinstein. Van has impressed coach Tinney and coach Lynch through the early days of Spring. Van comes from Glen Cove middle school and will be given every opportunity to win a starting position at either 3B or OF. Salvatore has stood out during the first two weeks with his athletic ability and wiry strength. Salvatore has a chance to have a major impact on this season right from day one.
