The boys basketball program at Long Island Lutheran has a longstanding tradition of excellence. With a record eight New York State Federation titles, the team enters each season with high expectations. Although winning is a goal for the boys, character development and academic achievement take priority over championships and records. The Crusaders play an independent schedule throughout the regular season, competing against both public and private schools. Each year, the program competes in several elite regional and national tournaments as well. Recent graduates Achraf Yacoubou (2011) and Kentan Facey (2013) have won the prestigious Gatorade Player of the Year award, which recognizes the state's top candidate for athletic excellence, academic achievement, and exemplary character. Head Coach John Buck enters his 11th year leading the program.
