LuHi Baseball Brings a Mission to the Dominican Republic

Every year, LuHi Baseball takes a spring training trip to sharpen up before the season. This year, the Crusaders are bringing something more with them. When the team travels to the Dominican Republic, it will add a mission component, making three stops to serve children and families in local communities.
“On our baseball trip to the Dominican Republic, we’ll be making three stops to help the less fortunate,” said Coach Shaun Manning. “Three different stops with purpose.”
The first stop is a local orphanage. Every child there will receive a backpack filled with basic needs, including t-shirts, clothing, socks, and school supplies. Each Crusader will have the chance to hand out a backpack personally.
Next, the team will visit a local school, where students will also receive backpacks. These will be packed with classroom essentials like glue sticks, scotch tape, crayons, and construction paper.
The final stop brings things back to the diamond. The Crusaders will donate kids’ baseball equipment, including bats and baseballs, to a local little league. It’s a fitting way to share the game with a country where baseball is a way of life.
The preparation has already begun. This past week, the Crusaders gathered in the chapel to pack school supplies for the trip.
For Coach, the trip is about perspective as much as service. “It’s an opportunity to give back to less fortunate kids in the Dominican,” he said. “Hopefully our kids can see how fortunate they are to live where they do, with the resources they have.”
We’re proud of our baseball program for using its spring training trip to serve others. Please keep the team in your prayers as they prepare to travel in the upcoming months!
