Girls Varsity Lacrosse: A Legacy of Dominance Continues

The Girls Varsity Lacrosse team enters the Spring 2025 season with sustained success. Last year, the girls secured their third consecutive PSAA championship and are determined to extend their winning streak as they hunt for a fourth. The team is led by standout player Kate Ross, who was named to Newsday’s Top 100 and has committed to play for Long Island University (LIU). With a blend of seasoned athletes and emerging talent, the team is poised to continue their dominance in the PSAA and they are hopeful for a strong run in this year’s NYSAIS Tournament.

Boys Varsity Lacrosse: Building on Success

The Boys Varsity Lacrosse team is ready to take the field with energy and determination this spring. After their historic win in the 2022 NYSAIS State Championship, they are looking to build on that success and elevate their game. Within the past few years, many players on the team have committed to play men’s lacrosse at the collegiate level, which speaks volumes about the program’s ability to not only develop talent, but prepare athletes for the next level. With a strong mix of experienced leaders and younger newcomers, the Boys Varsity Lacrosse team is eager to make a statement in Spring 2025.

Varsity Baseball: Continued Growth of a Powerhouse

Under the leadership of Head Coach Shaun Manning, who is entering his sixth season at the helm, LuHi Varsity Baseball continues to build towards becoming a powerhouse. After securing four consecutive PSAA Championships—a program record—the team is now stepping up its competition with a bold move to go independent for the 2025 season. This decision to separate from the PSAA allows the Crusaders to compete against tougher, nationally ranked opponents, further solidifying their place on the national stage. Coach Manning has worked tirelessly to elevate the program, expanding the team’s schedule to challenge top-tier teams from across the state and beyond.

With several players committing to play college baseball in recent years, including Jack Coogan ’22 (Molloy College) and Tommy Bressmer ’23 (St. Peter’s University), LuHi Baseball remains a proven launchpad for athletes looking to take their game to the next level.

Varsity Softball: Ready for Another Strong Season

The Varsity Softball team enters the Spring 2025 season looking to build on last year’s successes. With a combination of veteran leadership and exciting new talent, the team is prepared to compete for another championship. The athletes are focused on improving their skills, fostering teamwork, and competing at the highest level.

Varsity Track and Field: Freshman Talent Shines, Looking Ahead to Spring Success

The Varsity Track and Field team has had an outstanding winter season, with a particularly memorable achievement. Four incredible freshman athletes—Jade, Nailah, Alyssa, and Alaysia—made history by not only winning their heat at the trials but also qualifying for the prestigious Millrose Games, an event with a legacy spanning 118 years. This world-renowned track meet is one of the oldest and most respected in high school, college, and professional athletics, and it marked a significant milestone for LuHi as our athletes became the only freshman team in the entire competition!

Looking ahead, the team will aim to place highly in the Penn Relays this spring, continuing their journey of success and pushing themselves even further. With the foundation of their historic Millrose Games qualification and commitment to improvement, the Varsity Track and Field team is poised to have an even stronger spring season—and with such a young and talented group, they are sure to be a force to be reckoned with for many years to come.

Varsity Golf: New Leadership, Same Championship Mentality

The Varsity Golf team is under the new leadership of Coach Mark Sarnel for Spring 2025, and they are ready to make an impact on the course. With the team’s strong performance in 2023—sweeping the podium at the PSAA Championship—and a history of success, LuHi Golf is primed for another championship run. Open to students in grades 7-12, the golf team combines competition, skill, and camaraderie.

Varsity Badminton: New Leadership and Exciting Potential

The Varsity Badminton team is looking forward to a new start under the guidance of new coach Troy Joseph. With a strong focus on improving techniques and team dynamics, the team is set to compete at a high level this season. Coach Joseph’s experience and leadership will help bring out the best in the players, and we anticipate a season of growth and success.

Varsity Boys Volleyball: A New Chapter for LuHi Athletics

For the first time, we are excited to share that LuHi is fielding a Varsity Boys Volleyball team in Spring 2025. This marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the school’s athletic program, and the players are eager to make their mark. The team will be led by Coach Noah Smitelli, who has had tremendous success on the girls’ side in the fall, bringing a wealth of experience and leadership to the boys’ program. With a strong foundation of teamwork and dedication, the team is ready to compete, grow, and build their legacy as they embark on their inaugural season.

Fitness & Running Club: Discovering Passion

A new addition to LuHi’s athletic offerings is the Fitness & Running Club for girls in grades 6th-9th, led by Coach Jamieson. This club aims to inspire younger athletes to explore fitness and develop a love for running. Through fun, engaging activities, the club provides a foundation for healthy living and physical activity, while also fostering a sense of community among participants.

Exciting Spring 2025 Ahead

As the Spring 2025 season has begun, LuHi athletes are ready to continue the legacy of excellence that defines our athletics program. From defending champions to new teams making their debut, we look forward to this season being filled with exciting moments, memorable victories, and continued growth. We invite our entire LuHi community to support our athletes as they strive for greatness on and off the court/field. We can’t wait to share more as the season unfolds!
