6th Graders Begin Their Science Journey with First Lab Experience
At LuHi, hands-on learning is at the heart of every classroom experience, and our 6th-grade scientists recently had their first taste of lab work!
To kick off their year in science, students explored the scientific method through a simple yet exciting experiment: balancing drops of water on the head of a penny. With pipettes in hand, each group made predictions, carefully added drops, counted aloud, and watched in amazement as the water formed a dome above the penny before finally spilling over.
This activity introduced students to key steps of the scientific method – forming hypotheses, testing, observing, and recording results- in a way that was interactive and fun. It also sparked plenty of curiosity and teamwork, as classmates compared results and strategized how to add “just one more drop.”
The penny experiment was more than just a science lesson; it was a reminder that discovery often begins with small questions and big wonder. We can’t wait to see what our Class of 2032 will uncover as they continue their journey in the lab this year!
