LuHi recognizes the importance of preparing for the future while providing excellence in the present. The “Shine” five-year strategic plan, completed in 2020, outlines four main goals to ensure the school’s progress. Among these goals is “Inspired Spaces,” which focuses on the transformative renovation of the Main Classroom Wing. The project began in late summer 2023 and is expected to be completed by the fall of 2024. A comprehensive campus master planning process completed in 2021 identified this wing as a priority project, resulting in a remarkable 31,000 square foot classroom hub for LuHi’s core academics. The modern, flexible classrooms equipped with state-of-the-art technology will foster collaboration and inspiration for students’ overall growth.
Assistant Head of School & Principal, Mrs. Jessica Raba, shares, “With inspiring new learning spaces, meaningful shifts to learning experiences in tried and true courses will extend to new opportunities, particularly through a new Robotics and Innovation Center and cutting-edge science labs. Students interested in computer science, engineering, health sciences, and more will benefit from thoughtfully designed learning spaces emphasizing hands-on learning and collaboration.” Director of LuHi Summer Programs, Mr. Jason Wass, anticipates the positive impact of the campus renovation, “The addition of state-of-the-art classrooms and amazing technology will elevate our already abundant resources and 60 years of camping traditions to benefit all campers, especially those in our LuHi Country Day and GIFT Programs.”
As transformative renovation takes place during the 2023-2024 school year, LuHi’s Academic Village on the “middle courts” will be the main area of academic study. This space will house 19 bright, flexible, and temperature-controlled classrooms equipped with relevant technology as well as support areas including restrooms, faculty workroom, outdoor tables for community space, and including administrative and security presence. We have been blessed by our partnership with Zubatkin Owner Representation, a capital projects support firm, ensuring design and construction expertise as well as a smooth and minimally disruptive experience during the renovation.
Mr. John Buck, Head of School, expresses his excitement for this transformative project, a result of years of strategic planning, “I am so eager to witness the impact that our new academic wing will have on our community. These new learning spaces will inspire students and educators to innovate, question, experiment, and pursue excellence. This project will have a significantly positive impact on our academic programs and will position the school to deliver its mission for decades to come”
Construction costs will be covered through fundraising efforts, with financing support from the Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF). The Rise.Shine. Campaign has already raised over $7.8M toward its $15M goal. Stay updated on the progress by following LuHi on Facebook and Instagram.
