Building with Purpose: LuHi Students Serve in Puerto Rico

This year, our 9th and 10th-grade students had the incredible opportunity to travel to Puerto Rico for a meaningful mission trip centered on service, compassion, and community.

During their time on the island, students worked hands-on to help build homes for local families. From the early mornings to long days on-site, they embraced the physical and emotional challenges that come with service work. Whether they were lifting materials, working alongside team members, or supporting one another through the process, each student played an important role in making a tangible difference.

But this trip was about more than construction. It was about connection.

Students had the chance to immerse themselves in the local community, learning firsthand about the lives and stories of the people they were serving. These interactions helped deepen their understanding of what it truly means to serve others – not just through action, but through empathy, humility, and presence.

Throughout the trip, our students stepped outside of their comfort zones and into a greater sense of purpose. They grew not only as individuals, but as a team, building friendships and strengthening bonds through shared experiences and a common mission.

The impact of this trip extends far beyond the homes that were built. It lives on in the hearts of our students – in the lessons they learned, the perspectives they gained, and the compassion they carried home with them.

We are incredibly proud of our 9th and 10th graders for the way they represented our community and lived out what it means to serve with purpose.
