What I love about my role: I love welcoming sixth graders to the LuHi community. I love the opportunity to spark a love of learning in my students and to inspire them to think creatively to solve problems.
Hobbies: Hiking, traveling, ballroom dancing, and reading. I also love volunteering and serving the local and global community. In college, I led the Gordon College Beekeeping Association for 2 years.
What I love most about LuHi: I love being able to equip students with the tools they need to grow academically and spiritually!

LuHi Role: Athletics Director/Mathematics Teacher, joined the LuHi faculty in 1991
Education: Concordia University-Wisconsin (1990), Bachelor of Arts (Summa Cum Laude); LIU-Post (2001) Master of Arts, (Magna Cum Laude)
Awards and other experience: I was awarded LuHi’s Randy Abbe Christian Service award from LuHi in 2001 and was LSA Teacher of the Year in 2005. I have gone on two LuHi mission trips to Puerto Rico in 2019 and 2020 and have enjoyed seeing our students in action.
Hobbies/Interests: Going to the beach, Wisconsin Sports Teams, and Country Music
Why I love working at LuHi: My favorite thing about LuHi is the caring people who make up LuHi. Our leadership is stellar and LuHi has a focus for the future rooted in developing Christian Leaders! I love coming to work every day knowing the people I interact with from the Administration, to my colleagues, to my students will bring a caring and respectful attitude. LuHi truly is a special place to work and I have been blessed to be a part of the faculty for 32 years.
Mrs. Kasey Hughes

LuHi Role: Teacher (Mathematics), joined the LuHi faculty in 2020
Education: SUNY Old Westbury, BS Mathematics; LIU Post, Masters in Secondary Education 7-12
What I love about my role: I love that there are many ways to approach a problem but the final result is a concrete answer that you can check to see if it is correct. My position at LuHi allows me to teach math in a variety of different ways to reach the different types of learners in my classroom.
Hobbies: I love interior decorating projects as well as trying out new recipes while baking. Most of all I enjoy spending my time with family and friends and of course a good cup of coffee.
Family: My husband Stephen and I both grew up in Carle Place, attending school and graduating together. We have been married for four years and welcomed our son Everett in February 2020 and have a dog named Holly. We continue to live in our hometown with our families nearby.
What I love about LuHi: I love the atmosphere of our school environment. Everyone is so supportive of one another and rallies together to lift each other up to achieve the goals we set for ourselves.

Education: Concordia University-Wisconsin (2006), CUW Science Award for Achievement in Mathematics; Concordia University-Ann Arbor (2017), Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction
Other professional experience and interests: I served as a professional caddy for one winter in Naples, Florida prior to coming to LuHi. I finished my senior year of college as an All-Conference golfer. I won my county golf tournament four times and played in many amateur golf tournaments in the state of Wisconsin. My dad and I won the State Father-Son tournament, which is one of the oldest golf tournaments in the state. I am able to draw from these experiences to help the LuHi golfers.
Hobbies: Fantasy Football, Golf, Following Wisconsin sports teams
Family: I met my wife at LuHi! She taught math and is taking some time to raise our family. I have two children, Everly and Carter. It is a joy to watch them grow!
What I love about LuHi: I love the community feel at LuHi and being a part of a diverse community that really works well together to make the world a better place.
Mrs. JoAnn O’Brien
Mrs. JoAnn O’Brien
LuHi Role: Mathematics Teacher/Mathematics Department Chair, joined the LuHi faculty in 1996
Education: St. Joseph’s College, Brooklyn, BA; Fordham University, MST in teaching and Mathematics
Other professional experience: I have been teaching Mathematics for 52 years. I have taught every course from 7th grade through College. I taught a 4th grade mathematics class for three years while teaching high school math. I also taught on the college level for 8 years.
What I love about my role: I love the content, and seeing the students understanding it. I love being around young people and building a relationship with them especially with the students who need extra help. I love being Head of the Mathematics Department because I love mentoring new teachers and helping the Mathematics department continue to improve. I love being the Mathletes coach, seeing the students get excited after the competition and discussing the answers.
Family: I have two daughters, one is a 4th grade teacher and the other is a psychologist. Both my daughters are adopted from Korea. My husband is retired after 41 years as a financial officer in the auto industry. I have one grandchild. Outside of school, I like tap dancing, Bowling, Knitting, Scrabble, Holiday decorating and Reading.
Awards: I have won three awards for my teaching. I am the Dowling College/News 12 Educator of the Month, 2007-2008, The Nassau County Mathematics Teacher of the Year 2010, and the Lutheran Schools Association Teacher of the Year 2007. I have also won the Randy Abbe Christian Service award 2016.
What I love about LuHi: I love teaching at LuHi because it is a most supportive environment. The administration respects experience and is supportive of new teachers. I love being around the students and building a relationship with them. I love when I see them understanding the material and enjoying learning and being in my class.

What I love about my role: I love getting to share my passion for math with my students and helping them gain confidence in the subject and realize their full potential.
Hobbies: I enjoy playing volleyball, riding my bike, and traveling.
Family: My husband and I met at LuHi when we were students!
What I love about LuHi: As an alum, I feel very blessed that I received a faith based education. LuHi helped foster my relationship with the Lord.
