LuHi Alum VJ Edgecombe Drafted No. 3 in 2025 NBA Draft

Bahamas Native, VJ Edgecombe, a 2024 Long Island Lutheran graduate and former standout at Baylor, was recently selected third overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Edgecombe made waves nationally during his college career at Baylor, where he earned Big 12 Freshman of the Year honors and turned heads with his all-around game. Known for his athleticism, defensive intensity, and relentless work ethic, VJ averaged 15 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and over 2 steals per game in his freshman season.  His selection at No. 3 overall makes him the highest-drafted player in Baylor program history and the highest NBA Draft pick ever to come out of Long Island basketball.

Edgecombe’s athleticism, defensive ability, and work ethic have drawn praise from analysts and scouts across the league. The 76ers wasted no time welcoming their newest guard—Edgecombe arrived in Philadelphia just a few days after the draft and will be wearing jersey number 77.

On draft night, the nation learned what we at LuHi have always loved about VJ—his humility and gratitude. One of the most moving moments came during his heartfelt tribute to his mother, who sacrificed so much for their family. He shared, “we lived off a generator for seven years,” and thanked her for laying the foundation for his success.

VJ’s journey—from his days at LuHi to earning McDonald’s All-American honors, shining at Baylor, and now making it to the NBA—is nothing short of incredible. LuHi has produced many elite athletes, but VJ’s rise to a top-3 pick cements his place among the all-time greats.

Congratulations, VJ! We can’t wait to follow your Sixers career—Crusader Nation is behind you all the way!
