Meet Mrs. Nicholson!

We are excited to introduce our new LuHi Faculty and Staff members for the 2021-22 school year! This week, we introduce Mrs. Nicole Nicholson. Ms. Nicholson is teaching 7th grade English, MS and HS Religion, and our new Theatre elective. Read on to learn more about her!

Where did you attend college, and what did you study there? For my undergrad, I attended Hartwick College and received a degree in Performing Arts Administration & Music. I attended NYU for my master’s in Educational Theatre, and Hunter College for a degree in General and Special Education.

What do you love about English?
So much of the human experience is captured in the spoken and written word and uncovering the hidden messages between the lines is an incredible adventure.

What are you most looking forward to as you step into the role of teacher here at LuHi? I am looking forward to being immersed in a positive and encouraging environment.

Nicole Nicholson, Teacher

What are your other interests outside of teaching?
My interests include Music, Theatre, Choral Directing and Creative Writing.

What is a fun fact/little known fact about you that you can share? I am in the final stages of completing my first children’s book!

What is your favorite book and why?
Too many books I love to choose just one, but I am a big Jane Austin fan. However my favorite young adult book is Number the Stars by Lois Lowry because it’s an incredible story of love, courage, and bravery.

What other teaching experience do you have? What was that experience like?
I began teaching Music and Theatre through a Music Partners and Therapy Program for the Brooklyn Queens Conservatory and Turtle Bay Music School. I then became a full-time Special Education Teacher for the NYC DOE in the Bronx and Brooklyn. I spent three years teaching 4th and 5th grade in Long Island and then took my teaching to the non-profit sector. I am delighted to be diving back into the classroom and to be joining the LuHi Family!

Which of LuHi’s core values (Christian love, excellence, community, family) most resonates for you and why?
Christian love, because through love we are able to build community, achieve excellence and support one another as a family would.
