Long Island Lutheran High School has long been renowned for its competitive basketball program, and Valdez “VJ” Edgecombe’s contributions have only elevated its storied legacy. Over the past two years, VJ has established himself as a standout player for the Crusaders, and he could very well go down as one of LuHi’s most decorated athletes.
A Key Contributor to the Crusaders’ Success
As a pivotal member of the Crusaders, Edgecombe has showcased his exceptional skills through clutch performances and game-changing plays. His impact on the court has not only driven the Crusaders to successful seasons but has also cemented his reputation as a freshman to watch closely at the next level. His impressive track record has set the stage for an exciting transition as he begins his college journey at Baylor University.
Honors and Achievements
VJ Edgecombe’s high school career is marked by an array of prestigious accolades. He was named the NYS Gatorade Player of the Year in both 2023 and 2024, an honor that reflects his outstanding performance on the court and in the classroom. In addition, he received the 2024 Allen Iverson Player of the Year award, was selected as a 2024 McDonald’s All-American, and earned the title of NIBC Conference Player of the Year for the 2022-23 season. His talent also earned him a spot on the Bahamas Olympic Qualifier team, showcasing his skills on an international stage. Most recently, Edgecombe has been mentioned in upcoming NBA draft projections, hinting at a bright future ahead.
