LuHi Winter Sports Recap: A Season of Strength, Success, and School Spirit
This winter season, LuHi Athletics showcased determination, resilience, and excellence across every program. From championship performances to record-breaking moments and unwavering school spirit, our Crusaders made their mark in a big way. Here’s a look back at an exciting winter season:
Wrestling

LuHi Wrestling had a strong season, highlighted by hosting the Sorensen Invitational and crowning two state champions, Josh Nnorom ‘26 and Samar Hunter ‘26. Nine of 14 wrestlers placed at states, including several top-six finishes, leading the team to a 5th-place overall finish. The team demonstrated depth and resilience across all weight classes.
Indoor Track

LuHi Indoor Track athletes delivered standout performances, including Abigail Clue ‘29 winning the 1500m and Alaysia Garner ‘28 placing 6th in high jump at the Colgate Women’s Games. Four athletes also set a school record of 4:09.54 at the Millrose Trials, earning a spot at the Millrose Games Finals. The future is bright for these young athletes!
Boys Varsity Basketball

Led by Head Coach Anthony Davis, the Crusaders hosted a NYSAIS first-round playoff game, continuing their consistent postseason presence. Although they fell in the opening round, the program remains a competitive force in New York basketball. Their sustained success reflects strong leadership and program stability.
Boys Varsity Basketball National

The Crusaders finished 13–11 despite battling injuries, continuing to compete at a high level throughout the season. The team earned a spot in the EYBL Scholastic League Tournament, which is no small feat. A highlight of the season was the LuHi Basketball Invitational, where the community came together to support both the boys and girls teams while hosting top national competition. The Crusaders now look ahead to an exciting 2026–27 season.
Girls Basketball

The Lady Crusaders overcame three season-ending injuries to finish 19–4 and maintain a Top 10 national ranking under Coach Christina Raiti ‘12. The program reached a historic milestone with three players, Emily McDonald ‘26, Olivia Jones ‘26, and Savannah Swords ‘26, selected to the 2026 McDonald’s All American Game. This marks just the second time a team has achieved this, with the first coming in 2024 under Raiti with Syla Swords ‘24, Kate Koval ‘24, and Kayleigh Heckel ‘24.
Girls Basketball B

In its inaugural season under Coach Rigaud Ryan Destime, the Girls Varsity B team finished in the top half of the league. Their only loss came against the eventual NYSAIS Champion Stony Brook School. The team built a strong foundation and looks ahead to competing for a PSAA Championship next season.
Varsity Cheer and Dance

The Varsity Cheerleading and Dance teams played a key role in energizing the school community throughout the season. Their performances helped create an exciting atmosphere at events like the LuHi Invitational. They continue to elevate the game-day experience with their spirit and enthusiasm.
From championship titles and national recognition to record-breaking performances and unforgettable moments of school spirit, this winter season was one to remember for LuHi Athletics. We are proud of all our student-athletes and coaches for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence both on and off the court, mat, and track.
