Celebrating the Class of 2024: Words of Wisdom from the Salutatorian & Valedictorian

On Saturday, June 15, LuHi proudly celebrated its 61st Commencement Ceremony, honoring the achievements, growth, and resilience of the Class of 2024. Families, friends, and faculty gathered to cheer on the graduating seniors as they prepared to embark on the next chapter of their lives. The ceremony was marked by heartfelt speeches from Salutatorian Ella O’Hara and Valedictorian Eileen Choi, both of whom shared reflections that resonated with the spirit of joy, gratitude, and living in the moment.

Ella O’Hara – Salutatorian

In a warm and reflective speech, Ella O’Hara took her audience on a journey back to simpler times, sharing childhood memories of “bucket-filling” activities that brought happiness to her and her siblings. Reminiscing about collecting rocks, playing games, and exploring secret spots, she emphasized the importance of embracing what brings joy, even as one grows older. She questioned the typical notion of maturity, advocating for the continuation of fun and laughter well into adulthood.

Ella urged her classmates to release any fear of embarrassment or judgment, encouraging them to fully experience life’s joyful moments. As she expressed deep gratitude for her teachers, friends, family, and classmates, she shared that these memories and experiences have “filled her bucket” with happiness and gratitude. Her speech left her classmates inspired to carry forward the playfulness and wonder that defined their younger years.

Eileen Choi – Valedictorian

Valedictorian Eileen Choi followed with a heartfelt message of gratitude and reflection. She began by expressing appreciation for the supportive community at LuHi, including her friends, family, faculty, and administration, who all played a part in her journey. Eileen shared how she often found herself saying, “I can’t wait”—for the next break, the next milestone, the next chapter—only to realize that by looking forward, she had sometimes missed the beauty of the present.

Eileen emphasized the importance of living in the moment and recognizing God’s blessings and opportunities. She urged her classmates to cherish their current experiences and savor the present rather than rushing toward the future. In closing, Eileen congratulated the Class of 2024, encouraging her peers to embrace each moment with gratitude and presence.

The 61st Commencement Ceremony was a beautiful celebration of the Class of 2024’s hard work, perseverance, and personal growth. As these graduates embark on new adventures, they carry with them the invaluable lessons they have learned and the bonds they have formed within the LuHi community. The entire LuHi family is incredibly proud of the Class of 2024 and looks forward to seeing the impact they will make on the world. Congratulations, graduates!
