Engineering Essentials Students Put Their Bridge Designs to the Test
Students in Mr. Kolbert’s Engineering Essentials class are putting their engineering skills into action as they explore the complexities of bridge design and construction!
As part of their project, students raised the road deck on their suspension towers and tested how their bridges performed under different forces. Through these trials, students are learning that building a successful bridge involves much more than simply connecting structures. They must consider how forces move throughout a bridge and how to redirect those forces to maintain stability.
Through trial and error, problem-solving, and critical thinking, students are evaluating their designs, identifying areas for improvement, and determining what adjustments are needed to strengthen their structures.
Each test provides a new opportunity to apply classroom concepts to real-world challenges, demonstrating the importance of experimentation, persistence, and creative thinking in engineering.
In Engineering Essentials, students are not just learning about engineering; they are putting their knowledge to the test, one bridge at a time!
