Honoring outstanding members of the LuHi community

Renato Matos
Renato Matos is the Managing Partner of Capell Barnett Matalon & Schoenfeld (“CBM&S”), a New York-based general practice law firm with a dedicated practice group focused on serving both religious organizations and not-for-profit entities. CBM&S provides comprehensive legal services tailored to the unique needs of these organizations, including matters related to real estate, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and litigation.
Renato represents a broad range of denominational governing bodies, including the Atlantic District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, and the Metropolitan New York Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, as well as numerous other individual denominational and non-denominational congregations across diverse faiths. He has devoted the majority of his career to representing both religious organizations and not-for-profit entities in sophisticated real estate transactions, including purchases, sales, long-term ground leases, air rights transfers, joint ventures, and affordable housing development projects. Through CBM&S’s trademarked “Mission Driven Development” program, Renato and his team collaborate with religious and not-for-profit organizations to develop or redevelop real estate assets in ways that advance their missions and strengthen their financial positions.
Renato is also deeply engaged in the not-for-profit sector, regularly volunteering his time and expertise to a variety of charitable organizations. He currently serves as President of the board of directors for the Council of Church Advisors and is active in supporting the broader not-for-profit community through board service and legal work.
