LuHi Student Gianna ’28 Makes an Impact on Education Policy

This summer, Gianna ’28, a current LuHi student, had the incredible opportunity to represent her peers and make her voice heard on a statewide level.

Through her involvement with Girls Inc. of Long Island, Gianna was invited by Half the Story to join a teen-led working session with about 20 high school students from across New York. Together, they discussed ways to support the upcoming “Bell to Bell” phone-free policies, which will be introduced in schools statewide beginning in the 2025–26 school year.

Gianna’s leadership and thoughtful perspective in this session earned her an invitation to become a member of The Teen Tech Council, a new initiative created by Half the Story in partnership with the Clinton Foundation. The Council is designed to ensure that student voices play a key role in shaping policies that directly affect them.

During this special event, Governor Kathy Hochul and former First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton sat alongside the students, listening to their thoughts and ideas about technology and education.

We are so proud of Gianna for her passion, leadership, and commitment to using her voice for positive change. Her involvement in the Teen Tech Council is a testament to her character and a reminder of the incredible impact LuHi students can have, not just in our classrooms, but across the state and beyond.
