LuHi’s Domestic Mission Trip to Florida: Serving, Connecting, and Growing Together
This past week, a group of 9th & 10th-grade LuHi students and chaperones embarked on a life-changing Domestic Mission Trip to Daytona Beach, Florida. With hearts ready to serve and hands eager to help, the group stayed at a local church and spent the week giving back to the surrounding community in various meaningful ways.
One of the first service opportunities included volunteering at a local food pantry. Students helped distribute groceries to families in need and assisted in organizing the pantry’s clothing donations. They also spent time gleaning at a nearby farm, harvesting fresh produce that would go to a different food pantry in the area.
Another major focus of the trip was hurricane relief and cleanup. The group lent their time and energy to assist a local family still recovering from storm damage, and also supported an after-school children’s program in need of facility repairs and general clean-up.
Throughout the week, students formed strong bonds with each other and built memorable connections with the people they met and served. The experience was not only impactful for those on the receiving end but deeply transformative for our students as well. Many described the trip as “life-changing,” reflecting on how serving others broadened their perspective and strengthened their faith.
By the end of the week, the group returned home not only with sun-kissed skin and tired muscles but with renewed spirits, a deeper sense of purpose, and a shared hope for future opportunities to serve. Many are already looking forward to next year’s trip—and the chance to once again step out in faith, love, and service.
