5 LuHi Events to Look Forward to in 2019-2020

There is much to be excited about as we look ahead to the upcoming 2019-2020 school year here at LuHi. Some traditions, like prom and grade-level retreats, are rites of passage for specific grade levels. Check out our list of 5 exciting school-wide events that are coming your way in 19-20!

Pep Rally – October 11, 2019. LuHi’s Fall Pep Rally is the culmination of Spirit Week and helps kick off Homecoming Weekend. Many time-honored traditions will be in full swing, such as the banner contest, the crowning of Homecoming Lords and Ladies, performances by the Cheer and Dance Teams, the introduction of Fall Sports teams, and the selection of LuHi’s Homecoming King and Queen. We also look forward to some of our newer Pep Rally traditions like the Senior Dance. So break out your class t-shirts and get ready to cheer on your classmates and friends at one of the loudest LuHi events of the year. Don’t worry if you play on a Winter or Spring sports team – we will be sure to give your team a shoutout at our Winter Pep Rally or our Battle of the Classes (more on this event below!)

Christmas Spectacular – December 19, 2019. If you are not full of Christmas spirit when you arrive at LuHi’s Christmas Spectacular, you certainly will when you leave! This show garners participation from close to 75% of LuHi’s student body, including (but not limited to) our Middle and High School dance classes and choirs. Mark your calendars – LuHi’s Christmas show is truly spectacular! In addition, don’t miss our Christmas Concerts on Saturday, December 7th, as our bands, orchestras, and choirs help us kick off the Christmas season.

Beyond Boundaries – January 21-24, 2020. LuHi’s tradition of taking a week off from day-to-day bell schedule, to pursue passions and develop new interests, continues in January 2020. The course catalog will be released during the fall semester, and students will select their Beyond Boundaries courses in December. Some past favorite classes have included “Flea Market Flip”, “World Drumming”, “So You Think You Can Dance”, “Adulting 101”, and “Living the Lego Life”. What will be offered this year? We can’t wait to find out!

Meal Packing – March 15-17, 2020. All LuHi students have the opportunity to pack meals for our neighbors in need during our annual meal packing event. Since 2011, the LuHi community has packed 2,781,986 meals – and this could be the year we go over the 3 million meal mark! The LuHi gymnasium will be transformed into various “packing stations” where we will assemble meals for local food pantries and organizations. The student packing sessions are full of energy and excitement, and the Meal Packing Event is one of the most highly anticipated service events of the school year!*All can join us as we pack meals for the hungry – click here for more info.

Battle of the Classes – March 31, 2020What do Relay Races, Wordy Gurdy, Quick Math, Cage Ball, and Musical Chairs all have in common? They were events featured at last year’s Battle of the Classes.  Organized and led by our Student Government, the students enthusiastically volunteered for the various events, with the Senior Class winning the final bragging rights as Battle of the Classes Champions.  While the events might change this year, one thing will certainly remain the same: students will enthusiastically compete for the chance for their grade to be named Battle of the Classes champs!

Are you excited yet? The 2019-2020 school year is only a few short weeks away! We can’t wait to welcome our students and families back to campus for another year of top-notch academics, spiritual development, and athletics – and lots of fun along the way, too!
