A Look Back at the First Half of the School Year at LuHi

The 2025–2026 school year has been off to a vibrant start here at LuHi! From exciting kick-off events to engaging classroom experiences, co-curricular activities, and meaningful community service, our students have jumped into the year with energy, curiosity, and purpose.
Back to School Kick-Off
We began the year with a lively community gathering where students and their families joined in opening worship and celebrated the unveiling of our school theme, Transformed, inspired by Romans 12:2-8. Students were able to move into their lockers, collect schedules, ID cards, and Chromebooks as we completed our full roll-out for grades 6–12. New Student Orientation provided an opportunity for students to connect with peers, H.A.R.T. mentors, 8th-grade buddies, faculty, staff, and administration, setting a welcoming tone for the year.
Spirit Week & Pep Rally
Student Government led a fun-filled Spirit Week with creative dress-up days like Moments in Time, Twin/Trio, Country vs. Country Club, Bikers vs. Surfers, and School Colors Day. The week culminated in a high-energy Pep Rally featuring our Drum Corps, Cheer, and Dance teams, as well as spirited support for our athletic contests and Saturday’s football game. Go Crusaders!
Classroom Highlights
Our classrooms have been buzzing with hands-on learning:
Performing Arts
Our Fall Theatre production, The Day the Internet Died, showcased student talent from 6th–12th grade in a humorous and memorable performance. Meanwhile, December brought the beauty of the holiday season through music and dance: our bands, orchestras, choirs, and dance students delivered stunning performances during the Christmas Concerts and Dance Showcase.
Co-Curricular Activities
LuHi continues to expand opportunities for students to grow outside the classroom:
- New clubs this year include the Middle School Writers Club and Crochet Club.
- EmpowHER Club meets monthly for meaningful conversations and gratitude practices.
- High School Mathletes are off to a strong start, with three students advancing to the Math Olympics.
- Environmental Action Club members crafted bird feeders and engaged in hands-on stewardship projects.
Community Service & Special Events
- Students contributed 619 pounds of food during the annual Thanksgiving Basket Drive, with 7th graders donating the most. A coat drive supported the Interfaith Nutrition Network to help those in need this winter.
- Seniors and juniors came together for a Friendsgiving potluck, sharing food, fellowship, and prayer.
- The 3rd Annual HBCU Panel, organized by alum Arielle Carter ’22, provided insight into college experiences for students considering post-high school paths.
- Students responded to Hurricane Melissa’s impact in Jamaica through drives that raised over $1,100 and collected essential items for local families.
Retreats
Our retreat program continues to strengthen faith, connection, and community. Highlights include 6th graders at Nassau BOCES and on-campus, 7th graders at Camp Olmsted, 9th graders at Camp DeWolfe, and 10th graders at Frost Valley, participating in team-building activities, ropes courses, and reflection time.
Library Re-Opening
The LuHi library has been revitalized thanks to Dr. Joshua Tendler and the Family Association. With updated collections, a new check-out system, and opportunities for both physical and e-books, students are enjoying a space designed to foster research skills, literacy, and a love of reading.
Looking Ahead
From academics and the arts to service and leadership, our students are embracing this school year with curiosity, creativity, and compassion. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the year holds for our Crusader community!
