Allen Paul Sheehan ’65 Memorial

Private First-Class Allen Paul Sheehan was born on April 14, 1947, in Muttontown, New York. Allen was a graduate of Long Island Lutheran High School’s class of 1965.

PFC Sheehan enlisted in the Marine Corps through Regular Military service upon graduation and began his tour of duty on December 14, 1967. He was assigned to the 1st Marine Division, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, D Company, where he served as a Rifleman.

Tragically, on March 17, 1968, PFC Sheehan was killed in action by small arms fire while engaged in hostile action in South Vietnam’s Quang Nam province during Operation Worth.

Throughout his distinguished service, PFC Sheehan was recognized for his bravery and dedication. His military commendations include: the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Marksmanship Badge, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Marine Corps Presidential Unit Citation, and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross.

His death marked a profound loss for his family, his community, and his country. He is remembered with deep respect and admiration by his classmates, the entire LuHi family, and his country. His sacrifice embodies the values of courage, honor, and commitment to God and country. As we reflect on his life and service, may we draw inspiration from his example and strive to promote peace, mutual respect, and equality for all.

Private First-Class Sheehan’s legacy will endure through the values he upheld, and the gratitude of a nation forever indebted to his sacrifice and bravery. May he rest in peace.

On October 19, 2024 the memorial plaque, dedicated to Allen Paul Sheehan ’65 and all LuHi Alumni who have served, was a heartfelt gift from the First Family Classes of 1964, 1965, and 1966. Their generous donation speaks to the deep bonds of community and faith that have been the cornerstone of LuHi since its founding. This act of remembrance honors not only those who served but also the enduring spirit of the early classes, whose legacy continues to inspire us today.
