LuHi Softball Takes Home PSAA Championship

The Girls Varsity softball team at Long Island Lutheran (LuHi) won the Private School Athletic Association (PSAA) championship, defeating Staten Island Academy 12-8 in a thrilling game held last Thursday, May 11. This is the team’s first PSAA softball championship since 2013, and the victory was a testament to their hard work and dedication throughout the season.

Chloe Findlay, a senior at LuHi, played a crucial role in the team’s victory. As the winning pitcher, Findlay displayed excellent form and control, helping to keep Staten Island Academy’s offense at bay. She also had an impressive performance at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a double and two singles, three runs, and two RBIs. Her outstanding performance earned her the title of Playoffs MVP.

Emily Butera, a sophomore, was also a standout player in the championship game, going 5 for 5 with three doubles and a single, two runs, and three RBIs. Victoria Useda, a freshman, contributed to the team’s victory with a single, a walk, one run, and three RBIs.

In addition to the championship victory, the team also took home several individual honors. Findlay, Butera, Useda, and Angelina Kern were all named All-Conference players, while coach Joe Barracato was named PSAA Coach of the Year.

The LuHi Girls Varsity softball team had an outstanding season, finishing as both PSAA Playoff and Regular Season Champions. This achievement was the result of their hard work and commitment to the sport. Findlay shared, “We have worked very hard over the past couple of years to grow and promote our team and we all think this is a huge step in the right direction for us.”
